"Sutter Buttes Sunset" was taken on New Years Day of 2018. This photo was captured in a flooded rice field just east of Marysville. We had noticed amazing cloud formations in the western horizon around 4:00pm and decided to drive the short distance to photograph snow geese at sunset. This was taken a half hour after the sun actually set. Most photographers leave too early (right after sunset). When shooting a sunset, always stay awhile and you will usually be rewarded with a rich beautiful sky. When we first arrived the geese were in the water nearby. Noticing our presence they slowly swam off and out of sight. I was just about to “call it” when the second wave of color brilliance filled the sky so I decided to just shoot the wonderful sunset when the small flock flew into the frame. I am pleased to announce that this image won "2018 Photo of the Year" at the Nevada County Camera Club Awards banquet.
